Prior to joining Emery Law Office, Joel worked at private practice wherein he worked in both a plaintiff division and a defense division. In the area of plaintiff practice, Joel worked on medical negligence cases involving catastrophic injuries to car wreck cases involving moderate injuries.
He pursued claims in nursing home negligence, premises liability, day care negligence, and wrongful death. When he worked as a defense attorney for this firm, he defended car wreck claims, premises liability claims, personal injury protection claims, construction claims, and general negligence claims.
Joel was an Assistant Metro Louisville Public Defender. During his tenure at the Public Defender’s Office, Mr. Franklin represented clients faced with felony charges, including: murder, kidnapping, robbery, and burglary. In addition to representing clients charged with criminal offenses, he also litigated cases in the Jefferson County Family Court.
Joel is a native of Louisville, Kentucky. He attended the University of Louisville, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with honors in 2004. In 2013 Mr. Franklin graduated from Valparaiso University School of Law. He is certified to practice in the Eastern (2019) and Western District of Kentucky (2017).
While in law school, Mr. Franklin was a member of the school’s Moot Court Society. He represented his school in an American Bar Association Moot Court Competition in Boston, Massachusetts. He also started a local chapter of the Federalist Society and brought in several prominent speakers such as: Alan Gura, Scott Bullock, and Christina Hoff Sommers.
