3 People, Including 1-Year-Old Child, Killed in Wrong-Way I-65 Crash in Indiana

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Aug. 23, 2026) — Three people, including a 1-year-old child, were killed early Sunday morning in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 65 near Seymour, Indiana, according to Indiana State Police.

Police said a caller reported a head-on collision on the southbound lanes of I-65, just south of the 48-mile marker and about one mile south of Seymour. Responding troopers found multiple people had died and requested assistance from the Indiana State Police Crash Reconstruction Team.

Investigators believe a 2005 Jeep Liberty driven by 51-year-old Theosco Middlebrooks of Louisville was traveling north in the southbound lanes when it collided head-on with a 2023 Ford Escape.

The Ford was driven by 31-year-old Alyssa Osborn of Scottsburg. Her 1-year-old son was also inside the vehicle.

Middlebrooks and Osborn died at the scene, police said. Osborn’s son was transported to Norton Children’s Hospital in Louisville, where he later died.

Investigators said alcohol consumption by Middlebrooks may have contributed to the crash. Toxicology results remain pending, and authorities have not made a final determination about the cause.

The crash forced authorities to close the southbound lanes of I-65 for approximately four hours while emergency crews and investigators worked at the scene.

Separately, Louisville Metro Police are investigating a rollover crash near downtown Louisville. Officers responded to the intersection of Roy Wilkins Avenue and West Chestnut Street shortly before 7:10 p.m. Sunday after a passenger vehicle and an SUV were involved in a collision.
