What happens if I do not report a car accident within 24 hours?
Kentucky does not have a specific 24-hour reporting rule. If a crash causes an injury or death, or leaves a car unable to be driven, you generally need to call the police right away. If no officer investigated the crash and someone was hurt or the damage was $500 or more, you generally need to file a written report with the Kentucky State Police within 10 days. Skipping these steps can lead to penalties, and without a police report, it may be harder to prove who was at fault. If you did not report the crash, a car accident lawyer can help you figure out your next steps.
