What is the 4-second rule for motorcycles?
The 4-second rule is a safety guideline that suggests a motorcycle rider should leave at least four seconds of space between their bike and the vehicle ahead. To use it, pick a fixed object on the road, such as a sign or pole. When the vehicle in front passes that object, start counting “one-thousand-one” and continue. If your motorcycle passes the same object before you reach “one-thousand-four,” you are following too closely.
